FAQs

1/ What materials are the Simply Sami bracelets made of?

All bracelets are hand made by Anna from highest quality naturally plant tanned reindeer leather (with a few modern colour options available that are not tanned with plants), hand-twinned pewter with 4% sterling silver (nickel free), silver tag, and shed reindeer antler hand made buttons. The reindeer are domesticated in Northern Sweden and shed their antlers annually. All raw materials are imported from craftsmen in Northern Sweden (mainly from Gunnarsbyn, Malmberget and Norrfjärden). Only Sámi can own reindeer in Sweden and all materials that Anna uses support this small but crucial Sámi industry. Anna’s family still work with reindeer herding in Tornedalen

Regarding the bracelet tags: When Anna started selling her jewelry to the public 8 years ago she always wanted high quality sewn-on tags, but it took her over 4 years to develop and make them. Therefore she used tags that was hanging onto the button loop for the first few years (some product photos in the online store still has these old tags on them) , but today all her jewelry is marked with high quality sewn-on tags. When a bracelet have Anna's name on it you will be guaranteed that she's the one who hand made it for you!

Side note:

Sámi culture and identity is often demonstrated with a beautiful colourful traditional clothing (also called ‘kolt’ or ‘gákti’) and beautiful handcrafts

The style of the kolt varies between different areas within Sápmi and is an important symbol of identity and belonging. It shows who you are, if you're a man or woman, what area you come from, what family you belong to, if you're married etc

Handcraft in general is a strong symbol to express identity for the Sámi. Traditional Sámi handcraft is called duodji, and artists have to adapt to the natural materials rather than tearing the materials into a particular design. Roots, barks, plants, and the whole reindeer are common raw materials that are used

Hide is traditionally dyed with bark from trees like willow, birch, and alder tree. Hides, and some of the antlers, are a bi-products of a very small meat industry that is crucial to keep the Sámi culture and reindeer herding tradition alive

To sustainable herd reindeer in a way that keeps them running happily and freely in harmony with nature is a crucial part of keeping our culture alive. It’s been with Sámi people for thousands of years. Everything from the reindeer is taken care of and nothing is wasted. Most antlers however falls off the reindeer naturally in a yearly shedding process

3/ Delivery time?

Each unique Simply Sámi bracelet is special made for you, and hand made by Anna, after you have placed your order. The handcraft is very time consuming and labour intense. Therefore the delivery time is usually between 2-3 weeks depending on where in this beautiful world you are located. Fastest delivery when order within Canada

4/ How do I maintain and clean my bracelet?

Caring for your jewelry begins with being mindful of how to wear your pieces and when to take them off. Please always take off your Simply Sámi bracelet before showering,  swimming or exercising as water and sweat deteriorates the leather. The spun pewter and sterling silver wire  requires minimal care, and will flatten down and take on a silver-like shiny patina over time. You can polish the wire and silver tag with a soft cloth, and the leather can be cleaned with leather conditioning if very dirty

When you are not wearing the jewelry, keep the bracelets stored in its box or bag to keep them from exposure to outside element. Please keep the necklaces tied together tight, and leave them hanging from the leather part
Please be aware that a new Simply Sámi bracelet can feel a little stiff, but it quickly softens as you wear it. Same thing with the loop; it is made a little snug as the leather softens and the loop gets softer and slightly bigger after a few days of you wearing it

5/ Is every bracelet custom made?

Yes! Every Simply Sámi bracelet is custom made and hand crafted for YOU to perfectly fit your wrist and personal style after you have placed your order! So every unique piece is always hand made by Anna herself after the order has been placed in the shop. The handcraft is very time consuming and labour intense so please don't expect next day delivery

6/ Is it possible to order a completely different bracelet model?

Absolutely! Email Anna your request at info@simplysami.ca or fill in the Contact Form on this website. And she will work together with you to create your dream bracelet!

7/ Received the wrong size? Returns?

For sizing: measure your wrist snug on its thinnest part, and add another 1cm – 1.5cm depending on how loose you would like the bracelet to fit. Anna prefers to add 1.5cm herself.

If you have received the wrong size, please send the un-used item back to Anna within 7 days from date of receiving. Make sure to send it back with tracking, as Anna needs to receive the un-used bracelet before making the new one. Anna will make a the new bracelet for no extra charge other than your shipping cost. But please be aware that the size cannot be changed after the bracelet is made, and to save Anna time and costs please measure your wrist very carefully

When measuring an old bracelet, measure the leather wrist band not the loop included. That will be the size.

8/ Did the loop or button come off?

If the loop or button comes off within 30 days; send it back to Anna and she’ll repair this for no extra cost. You must present a receipt or order confirmation. Customers will be responsible for all shipping & re-shipping charges for exchanges and repairs

Please notice that the bracelet should never be wet or soaked in water, as water damages the reindeer leather and the bracelet will become fragile!

The reindeer leather is very soft, and as all leathers, it will deteriorate, wear out and break much faster if it gets wet and soaked in water. And salt water speeds up the process even more! So please be aware of that Anna can’t give her warranty on bracelets that have been wet
